Payment Methods in the Netherlands

Please be aware that Visa or Mastercard payments in restaurants or shops are not always available, so make sure you have some cash with you at all times. Of course your hotel, and most city center shopping will accept your card. But for example, supermarkets don't accept credit cards, and American Express is a less populair payment method in the Netherlands.

Going Dutch?

In Europe the PIN/maestro contactless payment is very populair. Further, although there is a saying 'Going Dutch',  restaurants and cafĂ©'s in Amsterdam are often not so happy to cooperate in this method of payment. They will ask you to pay for the full group, and expect you to arrange it internally. So, again make sure you have some cash with you as well or an app on your phone that helps out in exchanging bank transfers.

Dinner Circles & Boat Dinner Party

We are currently working on a list of available restaurants for the Dinner Circle evenings. We will make sure these are restaurants that support Visa and Mastercard, and support 'Going Dutch'.
At the Boat Dinner Party you will receive a welcome drink, and a dinner buffet, but for the rest of the evening drinks are at your own cost. Again, please bring some cash, since the electronic payment system is on a boat, and sometimes has trouble connecting to the system.
